I’m Over Traditional Presents—Let’s Bring Back Cellophane and the Gift Basket
How making Easter baskets this year sparked a quiet, unexpected desire to bring back the gift basket—even if it feels a little retro, a little ’90s, and very much due for a revival.
After a stretch of being sick (which felt as unglamorous as it sounds), I’ve found myself slowly settling back into the rhythms of things—and very much re-entering my Martha Stewart era. I didn’t do a full Easter tablescape this year—something I usually look forward to and take very seriously—but I was lucky enough to spend the holiday with my boyfriend’s family, which was as lovely as it was peaceful.
My one official task? Helping with the charcuterie board. And while it sounds small, I naturally overthought every detail—from the layout of the pimento to the addition of jelly beans which I stole from my boyfriend’s Easter basket (do not judge me- I needed a finishing touch!).
But the unexpected highlight of the weekend? Making Easter baskets. One for his mom, one for his dad—filled with things I love, things I use, things that felt a little indulgent but also thoughtful. There was something surprisingly grounding about it. Slipping each item into a wicker basket, arranging everything just so. It reminded me how much I love the act of gifting—thoughtful, intentional, a little playful.
And it made me wonder: why did gift baskets go out of style?
Sure, they can be cheesy. And yes, the early 2000s gave them a bad rap with shrink-wrapped spa kits and plastic grass. But when done well—with items that feel personal and useful—they can be such a sweet way to show someone you’re thinking of them.
So in the spirit of spring, renewal, and yes, Mother’s Day on the horizon, here’s what I included in mine. You can find everything curated here:

Wellness & Beauty Favorites from My Easter Basket
NAD+ Supplement by Double Wood
I take this every morning—part of my post-illness wellness ritual. It’s supposed to support energy, brain clarity, and healthy aging. Julia Amory and TIBAL both mentioned it, and I was immediately influenced. It really has made a difference.
BiOptimizers Magnesium Breakthrough
This came recommended by my incredible NP, Jen Goldstock, and has been a game-changer for sleep and stress. I’ve also heard about it nonstop from the wellness world. It’s a full-spectrum magnesium, and I take it every night before bed.
NUXE Ultra-Nourishing Lip Balm
A little luxurious and very effective. Kathleen Jennings (my skincare guru) recommended this one, and I can see why. It’s thick, comforting, and somehow feels elevated but still useful. Great for both men and women.
Medicube Salmon DNA Pink Peptide Serum
This one might sound intense, but it’s honestly changed my skin. I had a long stretch of skin issues, and now that I’m in the clear, I’m really focused on supporting glow and elasticity. This serum helps with both.
Medicube Sheet Masks – Turmeric & Peptide
These are staples for me before shoots or events. I’ll pop one on while getting a blowout, and by the time my hair is done, so is my skin. The turmeric one is especially lovely for dullness.
LMNT Electrolyte Variety Pack
This was my nod to the men—clean, functional, and surprisingly chic. A great alternative to sugary drinks, especially for anyone who’s active (or just really loves hydration).
So no, I didn’t set a table this Easter—but I still found beauty in the ritual of preparing something for someone else. These baskets reminded me how special it feels to give a little collection of things you love, all tucked together and offered with intention.
And yes—next time there will be cellophane (I mean- isn’t that sort of the best part?!).
With gratitude,
xx,
Hollis
